Born and raised in Mokambo, Zambia, Mumba Yachi is a folk singer from Zambia. He grew up around several musical influences. His mother sang in church while his father was a fan of various African artists such as Franco Luambo, Makaidi and Fela Kuti and also listened to reggae legend Peter Tosh. Passionate to become an artist, he learnt how to play the guitar at the age of 16. A few years later, he went on to become one of the country’s most loved and talented artists.

He dropped college and decided to become a musician. He sings Afro-beat music. The message in his music describes how he feels from the emphasis of respecting nature to the importance of humanity and the importance of women emancipation.
In 2009, he released his first album titled ‘Inspire Me featuring’. The album featured hit songs such as ‘You Are My Love’, ‘What Have You Done Me’, ‘Tute, We Mwana Wandi’ and a few others. In 2010, he was nominated for Born and Bred Music award in the Best Foreign Rhythm and subsequently invited to perform at the Ngoma Awards where he gave an impressive and outstanding performance. He has won a Zambia Music Award for Best Traditional Album for ‘Mokambo’. He has worked with Vatice Mushauko (Inzy production and design). This resulted in the production of an album called ‘Mongu Rice’ which includes the popular folk song ‘Kantemya Ntemya’ which means my Firefly.
Throughout his career, he has worked with several artists such as Amayenge, Sakala brothers, Sir Jones, Slap Dee, Mutinta and James Sakala. He has shared the stage with music legends such as Hugh Masekela, Oliver Mtukudzi ,Sibongile Khumalo and Zonke. His fourth and latest studio album is called ‘I am Lenshina’. It was produced by Mojo, the label he is currently signed to. The album is his dedication to women and his show of support through music for women empowerment. The 13-track album includes songs such as ‘Shame on You’ which talks about people having mutual respect for each other, ‘Ba Mayo’, a tribute to mothers for the sacrifices they make every day and ‘Africa’ which describes pan-Africanism as the way for the continent to develop.
Mumba Yachi's biography and music career has earned him recognition from the UN Development Programme. U.N. chose him to be a music champion/ambassador for the HeForShe Global Campaign appealing to men and boys to sign up and be part of the cause to empower women and fight gender inequality against women. In a nutshell, he is a conscious musician who stresses the importance of preserving Mother Nature and humanity.
