Anderson Herbert Burora, a former resident city commissioner of Rubaga division, has been charged with hate speech and spreading malicious misinformation against the state.
This follows his arrest and detention at Kira Road police division as confirmed by Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango.
Burora faces two charges under the 2022 Computer Misuse Act for offenses allegedly committed through his social media account.
The Directorate of Public Prosecutions has sanctioned his case, accusing him of actions between March and June aimed at ridiculing and promoting hostility against public figures.
Earlier this year, Burora was suspended from his office for alleged violations of public service standing orders, which included accusations of corruption against prominent figures.
He recently resigned from his position, citing concerns over corruption within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
