Africa Cup of Nations

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has initiated the process of selecting a host country or countries for the 2027 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.

In a notice sent to Member Associations on Thursday, CAF announced that the bidding process is now open for interested parties to submit their proposals.

Although the deadline date for submissions has not been revealed, CAF has stated that numerous countries have already expressed their interest in hosting the prestigious tournament.

The decision to open the bid for hosting the AFCON 2027 was made due to the requests made by various CAF Member Associations and their governments to host the competition.

CAF plans to announce the new hosts of the tournament before September and will reveal them on the same occasion as the hosts for the AFCON 2025.

One of the countries vying for the opportunity to host the tournament is Kenya, which is considering a joint bid in partnership with the East African community.

The Kenyan government has approved the proposal, with hopes of qualifying for the men's World Cup for the first time in 2030. Uganda and Tanzania are potential co-hosts for the 24-team tournament alongside Kenya.

Senegal and Burkina Faso, Morocco, Zambia, and a joint proposal by Botswana and Namibia are among the other countries competing for the hosting rights.

It is worth noting that Kenya previously won the hosting rights for the 1996 tournament but was unable to fulfill the requirements set by CAF, resulting in the loss of the opportunity to host it.
